Awareness raising and free legal aid for cases of illegal constructions in Prishtina and Gjilan
The problem of illegal construction in Kosovo has become very critical in the last ten years. It is affecting the economic development of Kosovo, since most of illegal houses are being built on agricultural land, but also affecting urban areas.
Through this project, SHPRK worked in the municipalities of Prishtinë/Priština and Gjilan/Gnjilane in assembling data on this problem through survey methodology and interviews and providing legal aid to vulnerable groups. This project aimed at paying a close attention to this issue as well as other areas affecting vulnerable groups.
After the gathering of data, SHPRK worked closely with the population in raising awareness about illegal construction, as well as get their input on the difficulties they had encountered in the process of getting building permit. Based on the information collected, SHPRK provided free legal aid for 20 cases in this matter in Prishtinë/Priština and Gjilan/Gnjilane municipalities.
In parallel, SHPRK worked closely with the municipalities of Prishtinë/Priština and Gjilan/Gnjilane in offering the authorities recommendations and support on how to provide better access and effective services to population, while helping them to clarify the legal framework, take legal actions in regard to illegal constructions and prevent illegal construction in the future.
